I'm gutting the interior of my 72 to put in the new carpet, C5 seats, etc. Despite having owned this car for nearly 25 years, I just now discovered a push button latch on a panel at the top of the cargo area just below the rear window. I pushed the button and attempted to drop the panel, but it hangs up at the outside corners and doesn't want to come down. Before I damage something, would someone be kind enough to tell me the purpose of this panel, and is there another attachment mechanism in the corners, or do I just need to "persuade" the corners to come loose. Thanks. John
What you are talking about is the tray the holds the rear window when you remove it.There should only the latch in the center that holds it up in the front and it is mounted to the rear panel with hindge plates.
How did you manage to not notice the rear window storage tray for 25 years?
does someone have a picture to show what you guys are talking about? I'm not sure I know. I am just unsealing my removable window for the first time after I remove the 25 lbs of Butyl that someone sealed it with. It is definitely a removable one. Still not sure of the panel you speak of, though.
In a 69, you should have #14 release hanging down, painted black with chrome raised lettering screwed to a spring steel clip bolted to the body under the window and behind the trim piece. When you pull slightly on the "handle" towards the front of the car, a fiber board tray will swivel down. If you have it, it's pretty hard not to miss it if you ever looked over the car at some point.
Thanks for the info. Nope,. my vette does not have this, or I would have seen it or any remnants while I was looking for the vent doors in the rear upper area. Nothing there at all.
