Default '72 questions

I have a 72 convertible

A couple of questions -

My steering wheel has been wrapped and the previous owner indicated that it was not in good shape. Is there anyone who will rebuild my steering wheel? I find offers for rebuilding later model steering wheels, but not my '72. I don't want to buy a reproduction.

My '72 has the stock Rochester carb (has been rebuilt some time back) and while it runs fine, it has a gassy (rich) odor mostly when I am driving, not so much when I am stopped. I changed the gas emissions canister, but no change in the odor. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Mike

Are the hoses routed properly from the vapor cannister? It could also be a problem with the fuel separator mounted to the upper left side of your fuel tank. It is supposed to prevent raw [liquid] fuel from being sucked into the vent line going from the tank to the vapor cannister.

I seem to remember a thread a couple days ago about air leaks on heater plenum that bring vapors and fumes into the passenger compartment.

Might be worth checking out.

On the steering wheel issue Chuck Pelton is the guy who did mine. I did not want the original but a leather wrapped one. He did mine and it looks and feels so much better than the small sticky stock one. Here you can kind of see the wheel.

I reconnected the hoses the same way they came off but I will check.

Thanks Mike

I don't have his email anymore but he is a member here on the forum. Go to the search and just search under the name of Chuck Pelton and you will see his info. You can email or PM him. If you have any trouble let me know.
