Go camping or something. Have a kegger.
You know the drill!
Or perhaps work on a different aspect. I really should be working on the fiberglass, it would only take a day or two to get what's visible looking sharp, but I've had no motivation for over a month now. So instead I've been working on the ignition, interior, leaks etc.
I do think I'll get on it soon though, as I would like to get it looking more presentable for the covered bridge drive on the 15th
I've tried for the past week to get into working on the vette again...and I just can't do it. Need some motivation from you guys...a kick in the *** or something...
Jeremy
Thats A tough thing Get someone else motivated WOW!!
The Mind is A tough thing it can tell ya no real easy.
Like the Guys said you have paid your dues with this project.
Im just coming off of A total re-build on A 1983 944 and What kept me going was my little voice (Tom Sellick) and it kept telling me there is and end and you are coming close to it. Since I was A kid growing up I cut Grass for money as A kid and thats a thankless job so all the while I was cutting grass I would tell myself that people were watching me, do such A good Job and before I knew it the Lawn was cut ...So hey were all watching .Show us how good we already know you are.
And do things saying ;that I wont have to do that again.
"and if it was easy EVERYONE would be doing it"
Good job and keep it up
You have done an amazing job and stuck to it way longer than I could ever do! You need to take a break, get your head refreshed. The car will be there next week or next month. We all need a break.
I am sure my story can be echoed throughout the forum - I started working on my 69 10 years or so ago. All I was going to do we "freshen up" the engine compartment. Discovered the radiator support was rotting away - well, you know where this is going. One thing leads to another and WAMM - I got burned out on the car completely. 2 years ago, I got back into it but slowly. A little bit here, a little there. Got her on the road and inspected last spring. Next month - paint at AutoBuffs. Over 10 years later.
My advice - take a break - you may be fighting the fact that you are just not in it. You have done so much and come so far to force you head into digging in.
V A C A T I O N T I M E!! Enjoy - life it too short!
Sounds unamious to me Jeremy. You could even get tired of bowerss2 hood ornament after spending as many hours on her as you have on the car. mike...
What I did Sun. rather than work on car.
naaa, everybodies wrong. Give it up and get rid of it,who needs the headaches...sell it real cheap so it goes fast..BTW, I might be interested..lol. Just kidding...take a break, sounds like your just a bit burnt out..it will pass.
I write out "things to do" list and tell myself I am going to mark off something every day. Days when I dont feel too motivated I do one of the little nothing type things on the list thats just takes a few minutes. Still moving forward even in small steps keep me positive and helps motivate me into the longer/harder task on the list. This is my first Vette and I bought it in pieces so its been overwhelming sometimes, but it does help me to keep checking things off. The more check marks the better I feel. Then I make a new list and say "oh hell what did I get into" again and start over.. The local car cruises are cranking up around here now and I have a 66 nova to get out and about with so those will help get me fired up a little to.. Good luck!
That's a good approach. Take bite size pieces- when you're ready to start again. No rush! Also, maybe it would help to recapture the vision you had when you started. You know, picture it when it's done the way you want it. That always inspires me, no matter if it's painting the house, doing yardwork, or modding a car. It makes the labor less laborious! Good luck.
I'm gonna have to agree with everyone, it's just time to step away for a while. I have never attempted anything to the degree you are, but even small projects on my Vette, sometimes I have a hard time getting motivated. Right now, the warm spring weather is all the kick in the a$$ I need. I spend every second I can working on mine right now.
I will never quit on this project. I'm just burnt out from the amount of hours I have put on it these past couple of months...it ain't easy. I'm going to take it easy this week.
Its NORMAL to get burnt out at times, if you didnt thats when I would worry. Its part of the process and why some guys (smart guys?) dont work on their cars.
Anyway, lots of good advice here, but what works for me is getting other people involved. Sometimes just the "thought" of people coming over in the near future gets me motivated. I dont want them to see my mess, or think I havent worked on the projects since they last saw them.
Also a fresh face will be more motivated to work on your car than you will be, suck up this energy and pay them back by helping on their car.
I remember a broken power window on my car that I didnt fix for a year, just drove it that way. I went to a friend's house and he couldnt stand to see it that way, he immediately started pulling the door panel and a half hour later it was fixed. If he didnt pull that door panel for me it would have stayed broken for a long time.
