Default Spark Plug Wire Date Codes

Hello. I bought my 1972 coupe 25 years ago from the original owner. I need to replace the spark plug wires (I don't know history of replacement) but I am confused on the repro wires codes. The car is an early 3rd quarter car built April 3, 1972 with number 5178xx. Should the wires be coded 3-Q-72? The catalogs like mid-America are confusing. Also is the stock spark plug for the L-48 motor AC R45T? This is not a NCRS car but I try to play the game. Thanks!

3Q72 wires would have been made in the third quarter of '72, July, Aug, Sept. Not suitable for your May '72 car.

Go with 4Q71 wires.

On second thought, the vendors only make odd numbered 1Q and 3Q wires. The 1Q72 wires would be OK.

This is for show only, right?

Hi mdb,
Just curious about your original wires' stamps. Are there one or two dashes in the code?
Thanks very much.
Regards,
Alan
