I've got my original tank sticker and am wondering how to keep and preserve it.
I know there are services to preserve old documents. Lamination a possibility, I guess, but might destroy if ever removed from laminate. Could frame it in glass and keep it out of the sunlight.
Any ideas on the best way?
Before you do anything that could hurt it, get it copied/photo from a very high quality place for an accurate reproduction. Then, consult a document preservation guy. You really don't want to lose the info that's on it.
If your looking for something quick and easy. I'd check a comic book or baseball card store. Those guys are pretty **** about keeping papers in tip top shape and should have a good selection of things you could use. Definitely want to keep it safe though.
It's funny how those old papers spent decades glued to the top of a gas tank, and when found, are treated like an original of the Declaration of Independence.....
Do not expose it to sun light, just a couple days of uv exposure will fade it beyond beliefe. Have a shop that specializes in document preservation frame it in uv protective glass and it will last forever. I have several OLD news paper sheets that I've preserved from the 20's and back. If you will be filing in a folder get a plastic sleeve from a comic store to preserve it, that will protect it from minor uv exposure.
As already mentioned, most framing stores know about special framing techniques to preserve historical documents. You can probably search that topic on the net and find all the answers you need.
I like the idea of taking a copy before you frame it, that way you can leave the original at home, and display the copy at shows or what have you. You also have the option of digitally enhancing your "copy" should you feel the need to create a better copy. (services exist for this).
