Where can I find the paint code on my car? Is there another way other than a build sheet?
I am getting my new cowl hood painted and I have just come to realize my car is not the paint code I originally believed it was.
I always thought I had a corvette orange car. After looking around at vehicles that are corvette orange I don’t think I match up. I think I have more of a corvette orange flame which I believe is a 76 color. I know that my vehicle was painted in 1991, but the paint tag supplied witht the car doesn’t have paint code on it....of course . I attached a picture of my car and another car with similar paint, any help would be appreciated. First picture I found, The rest are my vette.
980 is the correct code for 1974 'Corvette Orange'...if it is the original paint. If it has been repainted, you will have to determine what paint was used from a previous owner or any records you have. Otherwise, your painter will just have to do the best he can with sample books.
Not to be a smart a** but what difference does it make. You have the new hood painted to match the color on the car not what some paint code says.
What difference does it make? If he really believed the car was the correct original color (I'm still not understanding what's going on with the trim tag... more info please), and then if the car is in fact painted the wrong color the market "difference" would be the cost of a correct paint job, as much as $8-$10k.
If you are getting it painted to match, if you can get alittle chip of the paint, say from the inside of the gas cap or somewhere un noticable, you can take it to a paint supply shop and they can match it up for you. If they dont get it right, send it back and they should replace it for free.

My understanding is that it is to match a new hood to the current color. Nothing about original other than a would like to know.
Any good paint shop can mix the paint to get a exact match of what is currently on the car.
The guy shooting it wanted a starting point and I was half curious.
What does your Trim Tag say?????????? It is located in the drivers side door jam towards the front. That will tell you the paint code and interior color code....... Please post the numbers.... FYI: Its a piece of metal pop riveted to the body...... I have a 74 in Corvette Orange and it looks close to the same color, yours maybe slightly lighter...
