Should I or shouldn't I ??
Guy I work with wants to buy my Muncie M20 from my Vette.
My car is a non matching motor BB coupe.
I building it as a touring car & will be going with a 5 or 6 speed anyway and just storing the Muncie.
I don't ever plan on selling the car but you never know.
What say ye all. Should I sell the trans or store it?

Yes the trans numbers match the car

I'm in the same situation and as I see it, without the correct motor, the correct trans means nothing. It's all or none.

you car will be worth some increment with its original trans ( a couple hundred, a thousand, more?) and you will eventually sell it, or your estate will sell it. a used muncie is worth maybe 400-500$.

Side story; Guy who want trans had a New in the Crate L88. Had it since 69. He wasn't using it & had expressed interest in selling it. I made him a offer-he said He'd think about it- Talking to him last week found out he sold it to some Joe for $2500(what I offered him).
I'm thinking the trans might be worth a couple a grand

There really is no reason to keep it if you are upgrading anyway. People will tell you to keep it so you can sell it with the car, but (1) you are probably not going to sell it anyway and you will have been storing this thing for years for no reason, (2) while the original trans may make the car more valuable to one potential buyer the fact that it has a 5 or 6 speed already in it will make it more valuable to a large number of people.

especially due to it being non matching already, motor wise.
IMHO sell, put the money into what you need.

True price is 600-1000$ for a muncie, depending on condition

To me, it's more more piece of originality gone... for ever.
My engine is a NOM, but the tranny & rear diff are matching #'s. I want to keep as much of the original stuff as possible, even if I ever swapped out the tranny for a 5-6 speed. I'd still keep it.
Just my 2c.

My feeling is that certain buyers want the original engine & trans. If it doesnt have the orig engine, they wont buy it, period. You dont get "half credit" for having just the trans.

The guy who buys it (someday) with the non-orig engine wont care much, if at all, about the non-orig trans.

In other words feel free to sell the trans if and when you get a decent price for it.
