Peeling paint, need some advise. Please...
I need to ask about paint and realise it's a vauge question with a ton of causes, so... here goes..
I am looking at a vette and the car is nice but the paint is peeling off in what appears to be sheets.. some areas are as big as a square foot.. I can geuss bad prep, maybe, i don't know..... what can be expected to repair it correctly... Can it be something wiped over the glass that is perminetly embeded??
I actually had this happen to me from a dealer who sold me a "new" Camaro. The paint started to flake off. I took it back to them and after MUCH difficulty, managed to get them to admit the car had been wrecked, repaired, quick sprayed and then sold as a new car!
sadly, someone will buy it, paint and flip it and someone else may have a peeling problem in the near future...
FLASH TIME needed for the primer, aound 10 minites, or if that Flash TIME was missed and the primer was not scuffed before spraying the color. This has happened to GM< FORD AND DODGE in the early 90's on new cars. They waited to long to spray the COLOR coat and the primer FLASHED or dryed to much and the paint PEELED off in sheets.
The big three had massive recalls and repaintd millions of cars.

If the paint is peeling off in sheets. If clear only peeling off it's the clearcoat; if coloured then it's the basecoat and clearcoat or a single stage paint. Either way; a trip to a bodyshop is in order. There is no quick/easy fix for this. It is a lack-of-bonding issue.
