Default '78 Dash Cap

Hows it going guys, Im in the process of fixing up at '78 Pace car and one of the issues is the dash pad. Its pretty worn and has some cracks in it, and Im pretty sure its not worth trying to salvage. I saw in an Ecklers magazine that they made these dash caps that you just stick on top of the existing dash. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they worth it?

Heres a link to one:

Thanks, Sawyer

Not personally, but haven't seen much in the way of favorable reviews...

They work fine. Obviously not as nice as a new dash, but much cheaper and way easier to install. Make sure you follow the directions for installing it. Like painting, the quality of the finished product is dependent on prep time. Make sure you removed any buldges from the original dash so you have a smooth flat surface to set the cap on. Make sure you clean the old dash properly too so the glue will stick to it.

If a new dash is out of the budget, as dash cap is far better than a cracked dash.

I got one of this caps and returned it in exchange for the dash.. There is a lot of work to make it fit and there is parts of the old dash that will not be covered by it... But if You are willing to sacrifice it is a good way of saving some cash... Good luck with project

I have a customer that has installed a couple of them in different cars he was flipping. If your careful and take your time, they can come out pretty nice. If done right, the only place that it's usually noticable is around the 2 lower side AC vents. If your familiar with these cars and really looking hard, you can see the extra thickness created by the cap, around the vents.
