Default Dash Pad interchangeability?

Ok So I managed to put a nice big crack in my original dash pad this past weekend, and I was wondering if its possible to install a 1970 dash pad in a 1969. reason being is just to have the extra space to add a couple of 4x6 speakers up front. The two parts look the same, but im just wondering if any one has seen the parts up close and noticed any differences in mounting points.

70 -76 dash pads are the same, 69 was a bit different, a 70 would probably fit, you would just have to compare the two for installing differences.

68-77 dash tops are all basically the same. The main difference between 68-69 and 70-77 dash tops, are the speaker holes added to the top of the 70-77 dash panel. 77 dash tops look sligthly different than 76 and earlier ones. The molded in seam and stitching on the forward edge of the dash was eliminated from the 77s, but they still fit the same.

It will fit, but every person that knows anything about Corvettes will look in your interior and say, "oh, wrong dash pad." 69 and 70 are not the same.

Even if you think you don't care, you will.

If you go with a '70-up dash pad and you want to use the speakers, you also need to get the speaker support components along with the dash cap. Your best option [IMO] would be to buy a good used dash cap with the speaker hardware already installed, clean it up, and re-dye it to your interior color. Otherwise, you are looking at nearly $500 for new parts.

This is an important point. Those support brackets are essential.

That was a nasty job (heater core). I took the opportunity to install new Pioneer speakers and a FHE-300 modern head unit.
