Default 68-72 Radiator replacement question

Hi!
On the 68-72 sb vettes with the base 18.5" wide aluminum radiator with the steel shroud.. Is it possible to replace the radiator by just unbolting the shroud to move it back and lifting out the radiator or MUST i remove the fan assembly, and shroud to do it? Thanks way in advance

Hi r70s,
I believe it's easier if you unbolt the fan and clutch from the front of the water pump. You still have to pivot the shroud to get it clear. I also unbolted the 2 short bottom legs from the shroud to help in the pivot.
Good Luck!
Regard,
Alan

It is a LOT easier with the fan/clutch removed. As Alan said, remove the bottom legs holding the shroud then rotate it to the side and it will come out. With the fan left in, you take the chance of damaging the rad with the in/out work.

Hi r70s,
Gary's post reminded me... I cut a flat piece of cardboard to the proper size and tape it to each side of the core. It only takes a couple of minutes and really protects the core's fins as you're putting it all back together.
Regards,
Alan
