So after about 3 weeks of work, including completely detailing the engine compartment, and completely rewiring most of the car thanks to a rodent infestation, I finally dropped my engine back into place, and got the old girl fired up. (Note: I replaced the throwout bearing while the engine was out, but the clutch itself is only 2 years old & less than 5K miles) She ran great, but as soon as I pushed the clutch in to pull her out of the garge, and got a very unfriendly tick-tick-tick sound. The noise is very fast paced - sounds like it is at engine speed, and only occurs when the clutch is pressed in. Could the new throwout bearing be bad? I was very careful when installing it to make sure that I lined the bearing up in the fork correctly. I also verified that the bearing was the same overall thickness as the one I was replacing (however they werent identical in terms of outer diameter). I played around on sunday adjusting the clutch linkage, but couldnt get the noise to go away. Am I pulling the motor again to look at that bearing?

i have a Center force Duel friction, and i have the same thing/sound when clutch peddle is depressed, but it has been working fine for the past year or so.....

Sounds like a defective release bearing but don't pull the engine, just remove the shifter ,disconnect the trans and just slide it back enough to get the bearing out. You don't need to remove the trans.
I had a small block '69 chevelle that had a rpm tick years...drove me crazy. Finally put the car on jack stands had some one start the car. I could immedialy see the flywheel was hitting the inner corner of the inspection plate. Grabbed some tinsnips and cut off the 3/8 tab (for lack of a better word) and noise was gone forever.

I've experienced the same thing where the inspection pan was hitting, but he said that it only makes the noise when the clutch is pressed in. My bet is a bad release bearing. Most of the bearings are made in China anymore and are junk. Try Napa or a speed shop.
