Default electronic ignition

The Vette I traded for is a blast and I was wondering if it would be worth changing the original distributor for an electronic ignition. If so, any suggestions on what to get would be great.

I might also get rally's, where's a good place to find those.

All the aftermarket providers carry some type of electronic ignition conversion system and ralley wheels. Pick a vendor of your choice and see what's available.

If you are "having a blast" with it, why do you want to change the ignition? It probably won't rev any higher with an electronic ignition...or, if it did, you could just blow it up easier.

I wrote "is a blast" and that's why I wrote if it would be worth it. Just trying to get good feed back as my first post provided. Nice going 7Tvette, hope you day went better after this post

Man, you are touchy! ... You asked the question. I was just trying to find out why you wanted an electronic ignition. Sounded like the car was running fine. Why spend money that isn't necessary?

Warrior what year you working on ? Changing an early year to HEI has some wiring issues. We get some real bastards here on occasion ,for instance a 75-82 with an old points dist. You might want to fill out your profile. Welcome to CF.

Hey Roger,

It's a 73 L48 and it looks from the receipts the distributor was changed in 1999. The plugs look good, wires are new; everything seems to check out. I had the switch in my last Chevelle and it seemed smooth things out. I posted the question to see if there are any benefits in doing the change.

Forgot the profile, I'll get that tonight

Thanks for the reply, Jesse

The early points type dist. when in good shape do fine. I have changed many Corvette distributors over to pointless electronic ignition with good results using the Pertronix kit.
Changing to HEI is also an option, you can buy a tach drive unit or use a standard HEI and convert your tach to electronic. With the HEI you should run a new power lead from the ign switch 12 pink to the HEI.
I prefer the HEI but if you rebuild your points dist to original specs I doubt you can tell the difference in performance or gas mileage.
