If you ceramic-coat the "top" of the intake manifold, that will cause heat to be retained and raise the temperature of the air/fuel charge...just what you don't want to do.
You gotta remember insulation works both ways. We coat the entire intake, top and bottom. Coating the bottom helps keep the hot oil from penetrating the intake, and coating the top will help keep hot engine compartment air from penetrating it.
