Default Tach not set at Zero

I removed the tach from my 76 a while back. The needle sits on 1500 rpm now. Is there a reason for this? Is it broken, miscalibrated, or will it return to zero once power is fed to it?

Thanks.

mine doesn't sit at zero, its somewhere around 1000-1500 I believe, either way, mine does go down to zero once the key is turned to "on". I am guessing the tach is not put back in yet?

No, I haven't reinstalled it. Thanks for the heads up though. Does anyone know the reason behind it not sitting at zero?

The tach is reading the last rpm before the ignition is shut off. When you power up again before you crank it will return to ZERO
