Found this car on craigslist, with what looks like a major crack in the rear package tray area (3rd pic). What short of a massive wreck could cause this much damage and would you even attempt to try and repair it? I would think that to have this kind of problem would also have signiicant damage to the frame also?
If the body flexed that badly to crack the tub, what does the frame look like?? It's a parts car. Does it have a title? That's worth something right there.

Jeez, looks pretty good to me (better than when I started ...less the motor). Before I would say pass on it, I'd say have a look at it. It's hard to say what caused that crack. Yes it could have been a massive wreck at one time, or, more likely, it was bubba sticking a pry bar on the back side trying to pry on it to install new suspension bushings. The glass repair should be fairly simple and it's easy to get at ...doesn't require cosmetic tooling. Only way to know these things is to take a look at it. If the frame measures out, birdcage good and other things check out then you're off to the races, just add a 350. He says he's got the interior. I think someone could have a low-buck car here....
All I'm saying is you can't tell by the pictures, especially crappy Craigs List pictures. Ya just never know. Lets just say a disaster once occured and a previous owner wrecked it hard. Who knows, maybe someone bought it back from the insurance company, stripped it down and put a new frame under it and new panels where it needed it. Lord knows that happens all the time with vettes. If that was the case, one might conclude that the car was solid (now) and worthy of fixing up. Of course, like others pointed out it could be damaged heavily and NOT worth putting any time into ...but there's no way to know by looking at a couple low-res images. It all comes down to your resources and comittment.
