I am trying to get the heater unit with a new core back in my '72 air car. I removed it from inside after tearing apart the dash. I had such problems getting the old one out that I cut the pipes with a sawzall. Now the heater box hits where the firewall curves over. I had to put on the hoses first since they can't be done after it is installed, which makes it more awkward. Has anyone done this before for a 68-77 Vette with A/C? What trick am I missing? I tried going to old threads, but didn't find the info I needed.

I can't see putting things back together with the hoses installed??
The hoses go on after the spouts are passed through that tight area.
OR, you don't have the firewall stud lined up properly.
Thanks! When I took it off, the hoses were so far up the pipes it looked like I had to do it that way. It looks like I could not get to the clamps. It's in now.

That's a nasty job that I would not wish to repeat (touch wood!). You can see from my pic that the hoses just have to go over the raised ends of the spouts: about 1" for the clamps to grab. But you have done it now. I am very happy for you!! Hopefully I was of some assistance. That is what the Forum is all about.
