Hi Guys-
I put the convertible top on my '75 myself, big mistake I think. Just not happy with the fit, especially above the door glass. Can any of you convertible guys post photos of how the spring/tension cable attach?
I fastened the spring on the top of the side rail with the cable lying on top of the rail and thru the tops side flap. Is the spring and cable supposed to be below the rail ?? Also, can anyone reccommend a good top shop in central Florida?
TIA
Larry

If it was a bad fit, don't blame yourself if it was an Al Knoch top because that was probably the problem. Tops are not hard to install. They have been turning out some real junk lately. It's a shame because they used to be a good company.
I got my top off the internet for 180 bux, and wish I did not...the installer charged 150 bux and did it in my driveway, I had the old top off the car already, and so he told me the new one was too wide, would hang too lo over the side windows....same as what OP describes....
I tried all sorts of tricks to get it to work, and nothing helps much...so I going to just cut the sides after releasing the front wrap around, and have done with it....
having had many convertibles over the years, I find those side cables going through the material/stiching/pockets for them, are about useless, they do nothing on any car I have found....they frequently break and provide nothing in way of support....
The top I installed is an Al Knoch top bought from Willcox. I talked to two different people at Al Knochs with the same question I'm asking in my original post and neither had a clue what I was talking about. The top doesn't hang too far down over the doors glass, it's too high with longitudenal wrinkles and the new pads are pretty much useless. I'm thinking that the tensioning cables should pull it down and flatten the wrinkles. But then....I often get into trouble for thinking.
Thanks for the responses guys !!
Enjoy!

OH, btw, the Miata top for the wife's car I bought from same guy same time....it's too narrow and don't hang over enough on her driver's side...I dunno how in hell to adjust any Miata top, and it's got holes and studs with a hold down plate to fasten it, instead of those insane staples....basically a goof proof install for most anyone, IF they'd bother to make the damn thing correctly....it too catches the top back corner of the driver's door, and is damn close on the pass side....
I don't trust ANY supplier to actually make a top that fits anymore....
