Hi all, I'm in the SLOW process of painting my 74 vette and need to know how to adjust the drivers door. It has a wide gap at the top front and a very tight gap at bottom front.
I'm guessing the dash needs to come out (speedo/tach) to get to the upper door hinge bolts? I can see and loosened the bottom bolts but it doesn't look like its as easy as sliding the hinges forwards and back for this adjustment, is it all done by shims?
Hi ST,
You MIGHT reach the bolts in the hinge pillar with the dash in place but I think it needs to come out.
Here's a picture of the 2 openings in the hinge pillar you access the bolts through.
Your gap problem sounds like it might be the bushings in the hinge, when they wear they let the door sag. You can tell if the gap is wide in front/top and the rear alignment is dropped.
Regards,
Alan
