Default Parking Brake Slider

I noticed that when I installed my Parking Brake Slider, it was not smoothly retracting forward under the shifter console. I took it all apart to find out why it was binding and see it is hitting the power window harness as it crosses across the transmisison tunnel area.

The AIM says to locate the PW harness on the rearward side of the 2 bendable clamps. This holds the PW wires to the floor (Dynamat) and dissallows the slider going under them and protruding forward of the shifter plate. Actually - when the slider hit the PW wires, the slider dug into the Dynamat (which just happened to be in a Dynamat seam area.)

If the PW wires are loosely put into the bendable clamps - then mmmmmaybe the slider can sneak underneath them But so far it has just bent the slider.

Also - saw in researching this that the slider should not be split on the one side - use heat to slowly bend it over the E-brake handle.

No clamps on the PW switch wires on my '68 and the slider does it's thing without binding.

KB,
I made sure to route the p-brake switch wire as previously noted and do not have any interference with the deadener layer or the wire (no pw harness); slides easily in its channel.

Also, it had been suggested to me that the slider's lever hole would expand over the pb handle w/o cutting but the physical shape on mine refused to widen that much. I was concerned that heat would distort the slide too much and make ops worse. I cut mine with a brand new box cutter blade and slipped around handle.

Works as advertised; no problem, looks and operates factory correct. Good luck whatever you do.

Thanks guys... I did re-route the PW wires forward of the clips and all works well now.

As for the slider fitting over the handle - after assessment - I agree - I do not see a way for it to fit over the handle - maybe they had the handle off? I cut mine - woudl rather have not - but it works fine.

Back in the day - as I recall - they all were cut and the replacements. I could be wrong on the OEM ones.

I suggest buying 2 or three of these sliders when doing this area and warming them up in some hot water so they are pliable. There is nothing worse than almost having the interior together and this $5.99 piece breaks and you are held up waiting for the part to be shipped for three days......
