8 Track Playback Speed
Posting for a neighbor with a recently acquired '78 with factory 8 track player.
How do you adjust the playback speed? His plays too fast to the point you can't recognize the singer.
Thanks in advance.

Look inside and check for tape wrapped around the capstan.
This makes the capstan diameter larger which pulls the tape faster.

Check the owner's manual. He might be able to slow it down with the unit in the dash.

Thanks Mike, I'll ask him if it came with an owner's manual and if so suggest he check it.

Hammerhead Fred ...Is right on target, check the capstan. There is a small screw on some models (not on all)that allow for speed compensation but that seldom is the problem.

I had the same problem with my 77. I used the above diagram from Binnie. Mine had to be adjusted with a small allen wrench to the left of the large drive wheel. Look closely for the adjustment screw, hard to see.You will probably have to remove the 8 track to adjust

Looks like we are going to make use of the diagram and info about the motor speed adjustment. No tape found wrapped around the capstan.
Thanks guys.
