Default 1968 Value

I'm buying a 68 that is in the process of being restored and would like to know what it will be worth. It is a numbers matching 327 (350hp), 4 speed, vert with hard and soft top, origional interior and exterior with rally wheels.

The car has no rust issues and drives out well. The origional color was yellow but I'm having it painted black with a new black interior kit installed.

I know it is hard to tell without pictures but would some of you experts please let me know what a car like this is worth. Thanks.

That's anybody's guess. Worth today (in the shop)? Worth tomorrow (after the restoration)? Worth ten years from now?

It's likely to be worth less with the color change. Why not leave her yellow?

Good luck.

I don't like yellow, gold or white for vetts. I'm wanting to know what it will be worth in a few month when the restoration is complete. Thanks for the response.

$18,745.92 minus $6,781.40 for the cost of repainting it the correct colour, minus $1,892.95 for changing the interior colour, plus or minus $5-7K or more for things nobody can possibly evaluate over the internet.

Yellow C-3 Corvettes, particularly yellow convertibles, command higher resale prices than any other color including red. I see so many red, black, blue C-3 Corvettes that it would be refreshing to see yellow ones. The black finishes are hard to maintain and show every flaw imaginable. Wanna be unique? Stay with yellow and stay original.

Convertible sharks, especially the early chrome bumper cars, are sought after more than any of the others. If you change the color on a matching numbers 4 speed, you are going to be sorry when it comes time to sell. The money you are spending on the paint as well as much of the restoration could very well be out the window. Hey, I was looking at black and red cars but ended up with a '69 daytona yellow. It really grows on you the more you look at it. It stands out at the shows and I get so many comments wherever I go. People are always asking me if it is the original paint, which it is, and what the name of the color is. These early vette yellows are nothing like the screaming loud yellows they paint cars today.

Hi d,
I'd think in order to come up with a value it would be good to know what is being done "in the process of being restored".
Those words mean SO MANY different things to different people. For some people a restoration is a can each of, engine orange, flat black, and cast blast.
What's being done to THIS 68?
Regards,
Alan

Default Restoration

Hi Alan,
Nothing on the frame needs to be removed or restored but fender flairs are being removed and put back to stock. From there it is mainly removing old paint, sanding, sanding, sanding, prime, sanding... and painting then installing a new interior.

What do you think about a color change? From everyone on this site it seems to be the wrong thing to do. Please let me know what you think when you get some time. Thanks.

Dennis

Dpends on why you're buying the car. Are you going to keep it and drive it? Then paint it whatever color you want.

Or are you going to try to sell it to make some money? Paint it the original color.

Hi Dennis,
Does the $16 include the body and paint work and the new interior?
If the car is a very original car mechanically it's worth more with the original color!!! But, it's your car and you should paint it whatever color you want so you can enjoy it. You just need to realize that when you sell the car the new owner MAY consider the color change a deduction in it's value.
When I restored my 71 I had it sprayed with lacquer because that's what I wanted...more than 99% of people would have had it sprayed with a urethane or bc/cc paint.
You need to understand the choices and their implications.
Regards,
Alan

Pictures would sure help!

Default Price

The price includes everything. I guess safari yellow is not so bad after all. Thanks for the input.

Hi Dennis,
That low price for a 68 car, body work, paint, and interior, would make ME nervous.

Dennis when you ask a value question reguarding a Corvette it will always be based on it being "original". If the car is valued at 25K and the color is not correct deduct what a "factory" paint job would cost. That price could vary by $1000s depending on who with what materials and the area of the country it's done. Some will deduct 5K - 6K but could be as much as 10K+. When it comes to these cars you have to decide if you are going to purchase entertainment or investment and if you are going to buy or build with your heart or your head. If the car is a numbers match car in time you will come to regret not keeping it correct. There are plenty of Corvettes out there to personalize. This probably isn't one of them. In the end I think the yellow will grow on you and you'll love it. Good luck with whatever you decide.
