I've got an '82 and picked up a kit from hushmat to do my rear greenhouse area and try to remove some road noise. If I remember correctly when I did a similiar job on my '79 there was some factory type of insulation back there. Should I leave it and just put the hushmat over it or remove it all and use just the hushmat?
Thx Cory
When I did my 73, there was a spray on type sound deadener applied at the factory.
It was not applied in a uniform manner and was difficult to clean to point of good adhesion with the Fat Mat, so I removed it, cleaned and painted the raw glass.
how did the hushmat work for you? i am getting ready to do my 79. thanks
It worked fairly well, installation was pretty straightforward, had to do a lot of trimming and such. Pulled out all the old insulation first, came out in 1 piece, then did the hushmat, then re-installed the factory insulation. It helped somewhat but wouldnt say it made it "very" quiet. I guess its better than what it was.

I used a big case of Husmat and it covered all the rear stowage are on my '76 plus some of the wall between the seats and stowage. I then had to buy another case of a knockoff (Stinger Expert Roadkill) to do the rest. I am also putting down Lowes Reflectix for heat insulation.
I just did my El Camino with a similar product (Eastwood) and discovered that a heat gun will help you mold the stuff into the corners and other nooks and crannies, and seems to promote the adhesion.
