Not having to sell, I have just as many choices as you do. I can look for another buyer or just wait. Not having to buy, you can look for another car or just wait. Without undue stimulus being applied (either party having to do something) the true market value will surface.
True enough. We are talking the economy of luxury items, as far as the buyer is concerned (as much as we all love our Corvettes, I don't think anyone will categorize them as a necessity ) ; on the other hand, some sellers genuinely *have* to sell for one reason or another, and with more cars out there having been revived or restored (I think the actual number of saleable C3's has probably increased over the past few years), the pressure in the equation is for the prices to drop rather than rise.

That, of course, is for the common garden-variety Corvettes, of which there is still a great supply.

When you get to more exclusive cars, such as L88's, Tri-powers, cars receiving a frame-off restoration, etc, the supply remains limited, and the demand remains pretty solid as people with means usually retain those means, even in economic downturns. The prices for those cars seems to remain relatively steady; that doesn't trickle-down to the more common cars, such as the base-motor chrome-bumper cars, or the rubber-bumper cars of almost all varieties. It did at a time when there was greater demand for luxury-goods in the booming economy, but those days have passed.

I can not say that I fit the profile of being a member of any political party...So I do not understand the "Hope and Change " nor the "How's that Hope and Change working out for You...Do You Miss Me yet " Thing..
But after some thought on this, and because I Live by the Free Market...Supply and Demand ...Thing...I looked at my Social Security Statements, for the Yearly Income Amounts...and the DOLLARS, Tell me that I have Made My Money during the Democrate President Years, Saved It. And then Spent it to buy all My Big Stuff during the Republican
President Years, when everything is ...well lets say Fluid...50 Years of Data to work from...no bigass surprises here! Yes, I Voted...And Choose the the Best Possible, Worst Choice!

I am not a political person....are you saying that money is made during the demos in office and spent during repu terms?
I was able to buy my 69 at a bargain price during a demo term...isnt that backwards to what you are saying?

What I have noticed is their are good and bad in each party and way too many people are way too hung up and **** over this party or that just because it's "their" party that they are blind to the bad their party does.
No one prez made the mess we are in and no one prez will fix it either.
The problem is not who gets elected as much as who actually is running things...

There are exceptions to every observation and experience...I just intended to make a general statement and not address the transitional periods....and I do not find any fault
to what you stated...and I agree the problem may well be who is really running things...and why...

I wasn't calling you out or anything like that, tone gets lost in type
I am being very honest that I know little to nothing about politics, in a way this is good because since I have not sold my soul to a "party" like many have I can use an objective and unbiased eye on the subject when I do look at it,...which I hate to do,

Coming from where I do it seems pretty idiotic to blame any prez when the fact is they have to go thru congress to get anything big done or passed which to add to the idioticy congress might not be the same party as the prez which then is going to have their own parties agendas at priority not that of the other party prez....in fact going against a different party prez will make him look like he can't get things done or keep promises.

Seems more and more the one thing most can agree on regardless of their party is for way too long our gov has been a bunch of clowns...but no one is laughing...

ANY TIME a politician is involved we all tend to become poorer...

Why?

1. ALL politicians spend money like it's water. It's just not their money they're spending....

2. Government salaries are now higher than the equivalent private sector salaries, and this is another fine example of why this country is rapidly going down a road towards a major collapse. At some point, this upside down situation must be resolved.

I did not feel in any way that was the case...and your statements are certainly spoken with wisdom...and forethought...If my memory serves me correctly there is a Iroquois saying, " that every thing a person does, or does not do ...effects Seven Generations into the future." (Kindasorta) My family has two ancestors who signed the Declaration Of Independence, and fought that War...I wonder if The State Of Our Union today, would meet with their approval.

Based on the principles this country was founded on I doubt it.

Absolutely, positively NOT....... Our original founding fathers were VOLUNTEERS to the position they held with NO SALARY.... How many of the ~600 jugheads up there would do this for free including the side money they pocket?
But you're just getting me started on a rant...... so I will log off now . good evening from the Oilbama marshes of Louisiana.

How did this go from a value of our cars to a political discussion. Doesnt matter though, Ill never sell. Although I did take advantage of the market to buy a great house down in Florida.

People need to face the fact that the prez is controlled by congress...if congress are a bunch of clowns then so be it,
I hate political discussions invading unrelated forums I use to escape such tripe,
So I will end that by saying if you think the government is doing a horrible job then stop ranting and whinning about it on a forum and go show me how YOU can do so much better.
You don't have to like the man, but respect the office.

People who lost lives for the prevelidge of the vote did so in a era when voting still mattered, as times passed and changed we have learned that one party can even buy the election if they do not like the voting outcome.
I have had other people go off on me for bragging about not voting for either clown, when neither man deserves my vote I will not fall into the trap of voting for the lesser of two evils...just to vote.

Because anytime a subject related to the economy or the bad state things are in pops up one party uses that as fodder to bash the other party....when the fact is no one person, prez or party got us into this mess.
Parties ( and egos ) aside there hasn't been a runner worthy to be prez in way too long.

If it wasn't for the occasional mention of cars or parts, I'd think I was in the PR & C Forum!

I've noticed this, too...but now is the time to pick-up a Harley, compared to even 5 years ago, used ones seem to be dirt-cheap!

My guess would be that many members of this forum are shall we say "middle aged" and by now they expected to be living the "American Dream". So when a value question is brought up the "venting" begins. It's hard to defend "the system" after working 25+ years and seeing pentions and 401K values plummet as well as the current state of Social Security. So when the oportunity presents itself the out pour starts. If you really think about it the discussion is still about our cars. It's just not technical it's general and about the state of the Corvette hobby.

Funny you should mention the "middle aged" thing, I'm afraid that's largely going to be the rise and fall of these C3's. I think these have hit their peak and helped by this wonderful economy, the green movement and a few other factors, only the best of the best will command top dollar and that will probably be for the investment crowd.

A friend of mine has for 20 years been saving 2 vettes for his son and daughter, one a nice red 67 coupe with air, 4 speed and knock offs, the other a 66 396 convertible, w/hardtop and side exhaust. When the two little darlings started driving, he got a new Mustang and she got some kind of Cadillac. No interest in the vettes at all, and they were free. Next time you're about, take a serious look at the age group of people that take a serious interest in these old cars. And when they're gone........less demand......

If I had the space to store more cars I think I might be buying some of these distressed cars and hanging on to them for a few years or parting out the not worth saving ones to fund the other keepers...just don't have the room though......... Several mid 80's C4s are going for less than $4-5k around here. I know many of them are beat on, but many of the parts are usable and that nicely seasoned TPI roller block would work real well in my C3.......hmmm......
