Default VIN question for my engine

My car has a 1972 engine in it (based on the engine stamping code) but the VIN that's stamped on there doesn't make sense. The engine code starts with a 1, but the decoders I see all say it should be a letter (L, K or W). Anyone know what this engine might be? It shows engine code V0329CKW and partial VIN 12s518039.

The block Letters for base engine are CDH, CDJ(auto trans), CKW, CKX(auto trans).
Look at the VIN numbers on the windshield pillar. They should match.

These are not from the car, it's not the original motor. It's a 1973 coupe, but the engine codes show a 1972. I'm just confused about that 1 at the beginning of the VIN.

I don't see any Corvette serial numbers starting with 5 after the S in the Black Book that I have.

My Black Book shows that all Corvette VIN numbers starting in 1965 began with a 1.

Looks like a normal VIN derivative for a '72 Corvette stamp pad to me. What's the issue?

The engine came from car S/N 18039 built in early April. The engine was assembled March 29. Also sounds normal.

I agree with Mike.

5 car line series code (all 72s had this 5)

If your VIN ends with 518039, you're good to go.

Okay, thanks. I thought the two digits before the S should have been the engine type and then model year.

Thought I might have something other than the L48 for a minute since the engine doesn't match the car's VIN.

That applies only to the full VIN tag on the windshield, and then only for '72 and up. Prior to that had no engine type in the VIN.

Dumb question, but are you sure it doesn't match? You've provided numbers for a 1972 Corvette smallblock out of #18039?
