Default 7 blade fan

Will the 7 blade fan fit a rad shroud that came with a 5 blade fan? Also would it help cooling to get rid of the fan clutch with a fixed mount. Is it worth having my rad rebuilt or go with anew one.I plan on adding vintage air to it before it over with.My mount aint in the best of shape either and will be getting a new one.I noticed the aluminum rad mount is different. So if the orig copper rad wont cool it with air I guess I will replace the mount and put an alum rad and mount back in.There gose another grand.

During my rebuild, I changed to a Marl VIII fan. I have a Flex-a-lite 7 blade stainless fan plus several different width fan spacers with 3/4' pilots. None of it has ever been run. I'm asking $30 plus actual shipping. If interested, or if you want pictures, PM me with your email address.

Measue the fan diameters.

No. There's a article in Vette confirming the stock fan and clutch set up cools better than a flex fan.

Yes. Have your stock radiator recored.

I talk to the previous owner a few minutes ago.He said they rodded it out and cleaned it up.Its strange it dosent start to heat up till get up to speed.Just idling in the driveway it gets around 170deg.Thats after its ran for about 10 minutes.I can drive it about 8 miles before it starts getting up there. You would think at speed it would cool better.Go figure.

Have you replaced the support and shroud seals? Sounds like air is passing around instead of through the radiator at highway cruising.

Its got this old looking plastic u channel stapled to the front of the shroud. It dosent give much sealing between it and the radiator. There is a half inch gap between the two. There isnt any seal at all between the front of the radiator and the shroud? The guy I bought it from said it didnt have a problem before as far as cooling.I drove it home a little over 100 miles when the temps were around 85 without any problem. It wouldnt hurt to put a seal kit on it.

The fan blades need to be inside the shroud or the fan won't pull air through the radiator. The ends of the blades should be less than 3/4" away from the shroud 'tunnel'...less is better, as long as they don't hit the shroud. Any gaps between the radiator and the shroud should be sealed up.

Is your lower radiator hose collapsing when the engine is at highway speeds (approx. 3000 rpm)?

I measured the fan its 17.5" same as the 7 blade fan I ordered. The opening in the shroud is 19".The fan gose into the shroud and is about even with the lip.I hate to buy seals for a brass radiator when Im going to probably replace it with an aluminum one in the near future. They spec brass or aluminum.Must be a difference in the gaps or something.Ill check the lower hose.It was replaced about 4 years ago and has only around 2000 miles on it but stranger things have happened. That would explain the temps going up at speed. Thanks for the reply guys.Just didnt want to throw too much money at it and then replace everything a few months later. It would be nice to drive it a little this summer without the over heating.I will just keep in the garage if I cant get to run cooler till I get ready to swap out the radiator and support for a new one.So from what I read the aluminum transfers heat better than a copper or brass radiator?I just dont want to buy something just to find out it wont cool it when I put the vintage air on it.Better too much radiator than not enough.
