i have a '76 and very little money to put into it. i was wondering if any of you guys have custom door panels that you did yourself with low cost materials. i've seen the green tweed pic and that looks good and definatly an option for me. but what else is out there? i'm looking for simple and elegant designs but anything will help me decide what to do.
It really depends on how much damage your existing panels have. If they are just cracked in some areas without any big tears or missing areas, you might be able to patch them with some polyester body putty. Once the surface has been repaired, you can clean the panel and give it a new coat of vinyl dye [SEM "Color Coat" is the best, as far as I'm concerned]. If the patch was done well, your panel will look nearly as good as new. Cost: $5 for tube of body putty; $15 for a pint of SEM dye and $5 for a PreVal gas/bottle sprayer. Would that work for you?
