This was dropped off in my driveway this morning. It is a real nice 82 Collector Edition with 43,000 miles. The owner took apart the interior and part of the motor and left it that way for a few years. He is travelling a lot and just does not have the time. I got a cal from my brother in law asking if I would be interested in putting it back together. Well here it is. It is in very good condition but the interior took a beating being out in the Virginia sun. No rush on this so I will be taking my time but this should keep me busy for a while.
The car looks like it's in great shape and the interior doesn't look that bad (door panels & seats) from what I can see. It shouldn't take that much to get her back on the road. Congrats on your find!
Nice project Gordon, I allways liked the looks of the 82 CE, a lot of 1 year only parts, I understand that the graphics(decals) alone can be over $1500. But I like the wheels, the rear opening hatch. A lot of people have knocked the crossfire engine, but I bet you will be able to get her purring once again. Keep us posted on your progress. Is the interior a one year only color?
Regards
Roy
Awesome! I agree, it doesn't look too bad at all.
Looks like the stuff that's removed could be reinstalled over just a few weekends.
Maybe more since you didn't take it apart.
Good luck!
Nice...I had one for about 5 years...it always got a lot of attention. Looks like the hood and door fades are painted on. The orginal decals were always a problem and expensive to replace...don't ask me how I know.
Awesome! Wish I could have seen it in person...shoulda hung around a tad longer.
Thanks again for the diagnostic help...nice to know I have a clue. I had a great ride home, although I got a bit of a scare when I stopped at Columbus. I always orient myself to some feature of the building when I go in so I can find my car when I come out. I popped into the Amish market and came back out a different door...I thought for sure my car had been nabbed. Finally realized I oriented to a different door and there she was...
Enjoy and good luck with the CE...I'm sure it will turn out amazing. Keep me posted about the event at Englishtown and I'll make an effort to get over there.
Lookin deeper into this car there is some more work than cosmetics. Not to bad though. Yes there are a lot of one year only parts and looking at the catalogs anything that says collector edition tacks on about 30 to 50% to the price. The car has been painted and the area where there should be decals were painted on. I think the paint looks pretty good. About a 5 footer. Good enough for a driver car. The car may be painted down the road some time but for now it looks very good. The motor and transmission need to be resealed as it leaks from about everywhere. Typical stuff for a car that sat for a long time.
I remember driving a collector edition when they came out in 82. No road rocket but a real nice driving car. Should be nice. I'll keep progress reports as they come in.
My recollection of the 82 CE interior is a light champaigne color with 3-tones of brown trim added on the door panels [and maybe some on the seats].
Yes that is what is in the car now. I'm not sure about the carpet though. Seems like a very strange carpet in the car. Not the 80/20 or the cut pile. Is the 82 CE carpet different? I have to go look at another one to verify the type of carpet in the car.

Looks like a great project.
Isn't it great! I get to play with someone elses car and money. Actually I treat all the cars I work on like my own. I try to be as frugal as possible while still maintaining a top quality job.
Roger. That helps a lot. I really thank you for that. The car is staying original. Not going to be a show car but a driver that he is not going to be afraid to take to a show. Just wants it all cleaned up and everything working. It is his wifes car and they just want to be able to drive it again after a few years of it being off the road.
