There is a bolt that goes from a recess in the center compartment to the back of the parking brake console.
One stupid bolt. That's all. Just one......
Anyone have any tricks for alignment and starting the bolt? Seems really simple but, llike everything else, is very awkward. I've seen the post where someone suggested cutting the head of the bolt and just using it for alignment and lateral stability and after futzing around as long as I have, I understand why.
It's 9:30 and already very hot here. Blood pressure is rising faster than the mercury. Searching for the nearest post office on the web.....
....I don't know any trix, but that bolt is a major PIA. Make sure the one you have is long enough(or the original one that came out of there)or you'll never get it started.
Thanks Paul. I FINALLY got one started. I used a 1 and 1/2 inch bolt so that I could use my fingers to guide it in. Tightened it up and it's about 1/4 inch too long
I'd say that 1 and 1/4 iwith a single washer is about right. A 1 inch will do but I think it would be very hard to start. No idea of what the original one was. Long gone by the time I took it apart.
I'm going to drive around for a while and cool down. Hopefully, by the time I get home it'll be too hot out to do any more work.
The trick I've read is to put the bolt in the console and bolt it to it, with the shaft sticking out to the rear. Then just slip the bolt into the hole in the body. The screws will then anchor the console as usual.

I'm curious to know if you installed the original or a repro e-brake cover? I bought a POS repro and none of the mounting holes aligned. I bought a NOS cover and it was a perfect install. No problems. I called the vendor who manufactured this gem and told them about the poor fit. Want to know the response??? Yes we know about the issue. So why do you still sell junk???
