whats a 72 worth, numbers matching smallblock, high optioned car, must have had an issue it has a 73 clip on it. supposed to be a 28000 mile car. Interior very decent for the age, faded carpet seats ok dash ok. no rust. No new parts, car has been sitting a very long time. still has 70s bfg tires on. Runs and drives out good but can tell it needs work. His asking is $12000
Seems high to me--lot of expense and work to put original nose back on it and then redo anything else--probably everything else--to match miles if correct. my 2 cents???

maybe with the correct nose, but he is way high with a '73 nose on it. To put it back right could easily cost $10k. Think about it, you will never match that paint plus a complete front clip. I'd Pass
This may be a dumb question, but the front clip - you mean it doesn't have a chrome bumper? I have a '72 with a '73 "styled" front clip (open side vents) with the standard front chrome bumper. I'm challenged regularly that my car can't be a '73 because of the side vents. It is a 1972!
I can find no indications of a wreck, nor frame repairs/welding, etc, and I can see no indication that the front clip has been replaced. Was there an option in '72 for different clips?
As a note, my side vents are replaceable/removeable.
Let me just say that on a car like that, before I paid one plug nickel, I'd be checking a lot of numbers. Most especially the frame number on the top rail behind the kick-up. If you know what I mean.....
If I wanted a chrome rear/ rubber front bumper I would buy a 73. They have their own charm. If I bought a 72 I would expect front and rear chrome bumper. I would not buy a mixed up car like that unless the price was heavily discounted, ie about half of what he was asking.

Sounds like the guy does not know much about it... If it was a 72 with a 73 front, the value is lower...and my guess is you would lose money putting a 72 front on, when you are done...
The smart money is to get one you don't have to mod, back to stock...
Hi JimT,
I believe that some time after the 73 cars came out an aftermarket supplier made a side vent that had the smooth look of the 73 side vent but could be mounted in the 70-72 side grill fender opening.
I'll bet that's what you have.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks Alan,
That is what I'm thinking. The side vents are the removeable type and I wasn't sure about originality, but I can find no indication of front clip wreck/replacement damage. But in many shows I attend I'm always questioned about the smooth side vents (I like them).
