Default Frame Identification Test

Any idea what year this frame is???

Went out to 29Palms CA to visit my son before he heads off to Afghanistan. We had some down time so the wife and I did a little exploring. She wanted to go see this "artist" she heard about out in the desert, so in the interest of paying her back for the cruise-ins and car shows, I went.
I was wandering around in the scorching heat and came upon a car frame stuck in the ground. I said to myself "Hey, that looks like a Vette frame" and figured I'd share the pix with you guys. Looks like only a little surface rust and some extra glass block, but otherwise...

And one of a boy and his mom...LOL

Sorry, but I can't actually tell what that is. In my humble opinion. it is not art.

Default Not a Vette frame

Notice that the rear cross member is a welded unit. On the Vette it would be attached via the rubber isolated cups. Also, on the 68 up frames, there is a support piece welded between the kick up and the side rail.

No question that it is a corvette frame. The rubber cup mounts and the supports are there. Also the tranny xmember.

Don't know about the art part.

The angles from the kick up to the side rail are not there, the #3 body mount is too far back and the pockets for the trailing arms are not in the rear of the kick ups nor are the holes for the trailing arm bolts. The rear side rails do not have the welded steel cups to accept the rubber mounts in the cross member.
Still think it's a Vette frame?

Bud you better get out some pics to compare. Noonie's right the rubber cup mounts are there.
#3 body mount is exactly where it should be.
There is a little bondo filling the trailing arm holes.
You do understand that we are looking at the frame from the body side , right ?

I would recommend new glasses,a better computer display, and have a look at a frame or two...
It was definitely a late C3 frame, one thing we all can agree on,it certainly is NOT art...

OK, I'm convinced. Must be the angle but the rearmost section seems way too wide.

Careful there, Mike. You can get in trouble with a remark about a rear section being too wide.

Scott... my only question for you is, did you take her to see the "Rejuvenator"...???

If not, you'll need to have your son tell you of the legend of the Rejuvenator... oh, and tell him to stay safe!!

Mike I see what you mean about looking wider. I think it might be the newer 78 rear crossmember, its beefier than earlier years.

Not sure what the "Rejuvenator" was/is. I'll ask him. I was an air force crew dog, so i only know about bad hotel room service...

Roger,
You're right, the pix are from the body side. the bracing for the kick ups is there, just buried in what i think is mortar holding the glass block in, you can see them in the first two pix. (and did you see my response on the body lift post?)

Yes I did and I laughed but were not flying ,I want to get there.
What might be as funny as me trying to stuff it in the overhead would be it strapped to the roof of my Saturn.
