What year?
I had a 73 which routed the harness over the speedo and tach.
My 70 is an earlier build, harness routed under the speedo and tach.
According to the assy manual. the routing was changed on 7-2-1970.
I found if the routing isn't right it makes it tougher to get the panel to seat as it should.
May also run the risk of wiring rubbing on a metal edge.
Hi Skip,
If you decide to run the harness above the tachometer and speedometer it needs to dip down between the two so it doesn't get pinched against the cast-iron brake and clutch bracket.
When the factory changed the routing a large clip was added to the back of the tach to hold the harness down safely.

Alan
Here's a few pics for others to see, 70 AIM, and looking up from the foot well.

Interesting. My Page 12 B9 has one additional entry in the revision history dated 7-2-70, says HARN DWG REVISED. The drawing shows the harness going over the top of the speedo and tach. My 70 however has the harness routed as shown in your copy of the assy manual. No way it would fit over the speedo and tach. Seems they lengthened the harness to allow rerouting?
Seems early 70 and older routed under the speedo and tach. Later 70 and newer went over?
Wonder where the vendors got copies of the assy manuals. Seem to be different revisions out there..
Thanks guys this has helped a ton I got the fuse block back in with the harness and got the steering column back in and will start running the harness in place tomorrow night. I was set back a week when they sent me an engine harness for an automatic and my car is a 4 speed and I wanted to wait till I had all 3 harnesses before I started.
