Hey guys,
This might sound strange, but I cannot find my exhaust leak, It's been eluding me. I know it's there and I only really hear it when I pass by another car, or a high curb. I've hd the car jacked up and looked for rott or ay hole in exhaust, and I've checked the engine compartment... with the use of a (Marksman Ultrasonic Diagnostic Tool.) Hmmmm... Help?
BB or SB?!?!?!?! BB exhaust manifolds are known to crack. One way is to get car up in the air and have someone cover each tailpipe outlet with a handful of rags as you listen for the backpressure leak. Have you checked the tightness of the exhaust manifold bolts? Is it really the exhaust and not a U-joint possibly or rotor scraping. Exhaust should be like a ticking noise. Good luck

I had A Cracked Donut Gasket and it wolud tend to stop after heating up, really cheap fix the hardest thing will be the three bolts holding the pipe to the Exh Manifold pipe.

I've used a piece of garden hose like a stethoscope to zero in on the source of noise. Held one end to my ear while passing the other over the area in question. I found a crack in the heat riser, between the exhaust manifold and pipe on the right side using this technique. When I got close the popping of the exhaust leak it became clear. Found a hairline crack in the casting, difficult to see when it was cold. Must have opened up when it heated up.
I've used this technique for locating noisy tappets as well. May sound strange but it has worked for me many times.
