Hello Im still installing my carpet and and it is slowly getting there I would like to know when laying the floor area the foot well area is setting in good but the section under the seats which is contoured and it is not following the indentation of the the floor does this area remain flat across there as it can not seen when the seats are installed? much appreciated . thanks
Hi RV,
The front carpet was molded enough that it did follow the contour of the fiberglass underbody. There is a depression in the carpet that matches the shallow depression under the seats.
Are you saying yours is flat? What manufacturer's carpet are you installing?
Regards,
Alan
Hello Alan 71 it is a acc brand carpet plush pile the front area seems to drop into the depression on the floor but the depression floor area under the seats does not seem to fit well like it was no?t moulded like the front ? I was going to heat it with the hair dryer to make more pliable to work with? thanks for answers.
I had the same issue and simply filled that 'depression' under the seats with layers of sound deadener spray tacked down and placed the carpet directly over it. Since no-one can see it, it really does not matter. i then poked holes from under the car where the seat brackets go and cut small round holes for the bolts - MUCH easier than it seems especially if you have glued around the bolt areas - since it holds the carpet in place as you cut with a knife.
Good luck! BTW - I found it easier for the driver side (only) to unbolt the accelerator pedal, hang it out the way then glue the footwell FIRST rather than last (as per installer recommendation), otherwise you will be fighting glue and brake (+clutch) pedals to get that carpet under there.
Going through this myself at the moment, what a PITA, anyway I have the ACC brand and there is just the slightest depression in the carpet for the seat belt well, not much but it is there. I had a question as well, I am making the ASSumption that the seat belt fits on top of the carpet however when I looked at the AIM,and it isn't very clear, but it looks like the carpet is cut around the well where the belt bolts to through the floor. Can anyone clarify, thanks.
Me too on the seat belt cover plastic things! Are we quite SURE they go on top of the carpet???
I just bought a 72 survivor that had original carpet and had them under the carpet. It looks like it is to seal the seatbelt hardware from moisture, dirt and fibers from the carpet and allow the belt to retract freely.
That's kind of what I thought. My car had them UNDER the carpet when I pulled it.

Suggestion for the seat bolt holes: Use a soldering iron instead of cutting the carpet. It melts the carpet, creating a sealed hole that won't unravel (and it's easier than poking/cutting).
I'm also shopping for carpets and can't decide on a vendor. ACC seems to be the most popular but also MUCH more expensive than the rest. I've heard that Stock Interiors carpets don't always fit properly. Any vendor recommendations?
