Default General Question, Where...

Hi guys,

I have a 1980, and I guess I was reading-checking one of our sponsor's website and they are selling cigarette lighter light-bulbs and bulb-shade.....

since I had no idea this even existed I removed the carpet covers to look under the central console, and I have no idea where it would go, I could not find anything.

Do you guys with a C3 have ilumination on the cigarette lighter? if so, where does it come from? from a bulb under the ashtray? our sponser's website says for Vettes from 53 to 82

this crazy detail is driving nuts! help!

It is a little metal hood that clips to the side of the cigarette lighter. Not a very good picture, but was the only one I could find that shows the shade and bulb. This is on a 1971.

thank you, so it clips on to female part of the lighter?

I was checking on mine, a 1980, but I dont think I have figured out exactly where it goes, as I should be seeing some openings for the shield and openings for the light from the bulb to iluminate the ashtray area?

Yes, it clips to the side of the socket. There are some slots that the hood will clip into.

Purchase the 1980 assembly instruction manual (AIM). The AIM shows the installation of the lighter lamp.

You should be able to remove the LH console carpet trim and peer under the console. You'll need a flashlight; it's dark under there.

thank you both... on my break I went to the auto-wreckers and I found an early seventies Vette or what was left of it....sad sad sight...only the cockpit was there, however it was laying there: the cigarette light assembly with shade-hood. no console though but now I know exactly what I should be looking for on mine... I guess it will be cool that at least that part of that Vette will go on to ride another day (if I find the grey cable it should attach to)

The lighter lamp would have been part of the original console electric harness. Your lamp might still be under the console.

Hi FD,
Do you have any other pictures that show ANY of the original jute padding on the transmission tunnel?
Thanks VERY much.
Regards,
Alan

Well, I made a succesful transplant.... I could not find the original bulb with shield, but I installed the one I removed from the 70's Vette I found at the auto-wreckers.

I installed it at the side of the lighter socket, so now everytime I remove the cigarette lighter element I guess the female socket is lit....did I do it right?

It seems the actual power cable splits into the cigarette lighter bulb and the bulb for the shifter lens (for auto trannys)..am I correct? seemed like the same grey cable....

Hi Alan,
I have some random pictures that show it from when I was replacing the carpet a few months ago. I'll upload what I can find and PM you the links.
