Default Heavy Rain = wet carpets

Heavy downpour yesterday, both my carpets are soaked (in front of seats).

Where is the most common stop to look for why it's leaking?

Our 75 leaked around the rear window which made the cargo area wet.

were your seats wet too? If so, the t-top seals are probably your culprit
if it's just the floorboards, it could be the door, window or windshield seals at a minimum.
You can do the old hose test and run it over the body and see if where the leaks are coming from.
good luck! leaks suck!

There are small weep holes under each fender edge at the bottom of the car. You want to ensure these are open to allow water to drain where it runs down from the wiper trough.

My 77 did the same thing I think its the area behind the wiper where all that gunk gets hard and drys out thats where I would start ,next to the T-Tops dont rule that out as the bird cages get screwed up form that very Thing .The water runs down the pillar post un-seen...

If it's clogged, where does it actually come into the car? by the motor mounts?

Usually under the windshield pillars. Look up under the dash in the corners. You may see moisture and surface rust to outright rot up there.

Very true, but just replaced door seals and there seem to be fewer leaks

Lots of rain yesterday, was driving as this happened.
I could see the water coming in, both sides, around the front of the door and around the frame mount.

Water in heavy amounts especially with the later models with converters that have steel floors because of the heat converters generate will over time have rust problems.....And those buying insulation under the carpets contribute to it by having the water trapped underneath. Fortunately mine are glass floors and the problem is significantly reduced......But the seat tracks are often garbaged too whether or not they have plastic floors. I wouldn`t use any type of product under the carpets that would make it more difficult to dry out because they all leak. How would you dry one out? Well in FLorida just open the doors and let the Sun do it....that is between the almost daily rains ......

Pop the plugs under the carpet so that water drains out.

edit- I would also pour some carpet cleaning liquid in there and mix it around , drain and vacuum, it supposedly has some stuff in it so mold doesn't form.

I would pull the kicks and see exactly where the water is coming from.
Check the to see if the body mount area is wet or the vent or both.

No sense guessing.

If it's like most of them the windshield frame is rotted at the top of the windshield, water runs inside the birdcage and out where ever it wants. Mostly down the inside of the pillars and kicks just behind the plastic.

Granted, the fenders are off the cars in the pix, but you can see the location of the weep holes. They can get crudded up with debris.
