Bubba has painted black over my original firewall engine data decal. Has anyone found something that will safely remove the paint without destroying the decal?
Yes, I know I can buy a new one but I would like to keep the oem one intact. It is a '69 427/400 horse A/C, 4 speed car. I have also found problems with the accuracy of the reproduction decals. I put an aftermarket "keep your car all GM" decal on an air cleaner which got soft the first time it got wet. I think it was a paper based decal instead of vinyl like it should have been. I also have the tire pressure door decal replacement that has a different font and character size than the original. Thanks for the input none the less.

Peanut butter put it on leave it a while it will re-move the paint the sticker should have a clear coat sticker over the lettering so you should be ok with out damaging the sticker .
And I agree the stickers you buy are not real looking they are done with cheap ink just bought one for my air cleaner cover (Junk) just put two sided tape on the old one it looks new
I like the peanut butter idea, never heard that before. I was going to recommend trying Goof-off. Home depot etc... sell it. If you use it, go slow removing the paint. Use a Q-tip.

Hi Jim,
I believe you'll find that the black printing and the white background are on the underside of your sticker. That's the way my 71's sticker is.
I'd try some enamel reducer on the black paint to see if that'll take care of it. Don't get it so wet that the solvent wants to creep under the sticker's edge and begins to release it.
Regards,
Alan
I have also found problems with the accuracy of the reproduction decals.
Check the part number on the reproduction decal, the one sold by Ecklers and Corvette Central for the 1971 LS5 has the wrong part number. Doc Rebuild has the right number on his.
