Default Weatherstripping

I am replacing all the weatherstripping in my 78, when I took off the T-Bar weatherstrip I had to take some of the chrome pieces and I noticed something underneath the outside edge. It looked like something to prevent water from going inside..... any suggestions as to what I need?

Hi LS,
And... this "something" looked like ?
Often there was a black 'glop' under the trim to help stop leaks. 3M makes a black strip caulk that you can use. It's available at many auto supply stores.
Regards,
Alan
