Ihave a question about car shows. There is a big all Vette show tomorrow in Norman OK, I am signed up but having second thoughts. It is all for charity(toys for tots), but there will be a ton of cars and bands and many other things. My question is, my interior is perfect and the engine looks good. The paint is about a 4 footer with some touch ups here and there that you really have to look for. Should I just wait until its perfect to go to these things? I just like to be a part of things, but to be a real super head turner it is still a year or 2 away since I won't shoot it till I am done with her mechanically. All of the late models there will be the real draw and its 2 hours away........decisions..
Hate to answer a question with a question but - are you going to support a great charity drive or to win a trophy? To me, it is a win -win deal. You get to enjoy the 2 hour drive there & back and use your Corvette to help those less fortunate.
If it's for charity I would just go and have a good time. You will probably see a lot of cars there that look worse than yours. I have gone to 3 shows so far this summer, and my paint and interior are nothing that would ever win an award. I put the hood up so the LS1 distracts people.
Go and enjoy! I haven't won any trophies in years... I just go to enjoy all the cars and meet people.
I've never won a trophy. I like to watch people look at my car, dad's showing their kids the 4 speed, 4 barrel etc that you haven't seen on new cars for years.
I went to the CF cruise in a couple years ago and had the 68 sitting in front of the museum. I saw a couple looking at my car and started up a conversation. Turns out they were from Europe and loved seeing all the Corvettes there and really liked mine. I asked if they would like to sit in it and take their picture. I still remember the smiles on their faces.
Don't go to car shows to win trophies. Go to let other people enjoy your car.
go and have fun. My car is far from perfect. I have several rock chips and a couple of scratches. I really enjoy going. i was lucky last year and i have won a 1st place trophy for best in class '80's vehicle at a local car show and a few weeks later a second place for 78-82 C3 in a corvette chevy car show. So go and have fun, you might just come home with a little something extra. By the way the trophy and plaque have motivated me to do more on my car and to get it perfect.

I noticed you are from Enid. I live in Alva, and there will be a car show next month in the third weekend of September. It is a pretty small car show, but it is way better than most of the other car shows I have been to.
Most of the cars here are in the junker category, there are very few that are show worthy in my opinion. If you aren't busy that Saturday, you should look into coming. I would like to meet some locals to talk shop with.

What exactly were you trying to convey with the phrase "typical white person"?
I don't bother entering "shows" where there is judging, although for a charity event you mention I would. A cruise night is a different matter as you seem to see all different levels from rolling wrecks to perfect.
I'm thinking of having a small poster or sign made to place in my window with words to the effect of "This is not a show car, an autocross car, a drag car, or a rally car. It's just a fun car to drive and while it's less than perfect, I'm perfectly happy with it!"

I dont understand the racial comment, however I am not into the trophy thing, at least not in the near future, just dont care to be scoffed at for having what some might think is a below thier standard car. I went and had a blast and got some nice complements, I did get a gift card for Rock Auto in the drawing! Once again, what is with the White person comment? really???

Had a blast!! Got Sunburned and met some great folks!!!! And saw some incredible cars!!!!
I am glad that you went to the car show! I was sure you would have a great time! Car people are great people. My son and I will be going to a local show tomorrow and this afternoon we were getting the car ready! That is the best part for me to share the experience with my son
