Hello, I just recently joined. I am new to this board, but not to vettes. I had a nice yellow 80 all original 46k back in the day. Like many I was forced to sell my baby for the down payment of our First house. That was back in 89. Back then I sold it for $7500. Since then I played with Harley's,jeeps, and a boat. My kids are pretty much grown now(not babys) I got the bug once again for a vette. So I am selling my boat to fund the car. I decided I really like the 73-77 style. I like the look of the straight back window. In my neck of the woods these cars are hard to come by for a decent amont of change. I'll have roughly 9-12g's to play with. But most folks in this state are asking WAY to much for a car that still needs some work. What do you guys think- am I out of the ball park to expect to pay this and get a good quality vette? Thanks Dave in Florida.
The same $7500 you sold yours for 21 years ago will still buy you a nice starter kit and leave you some money to fix her up with !
I bought my '74 for $5000.
Welcome to the board ! There's a LOT of great guys here !

hey daanbc good luck on the hunt.i sold my boat also, not to fund the vette, but to make room in the garage.this is my first vette and it is a 76' that needs some work but is basically sound.i like the tunnel rear window also of these years and consider the c3's the most beautiful and sensous of the corvette's.i paid 7k in long island where the prices seem to be a bit higher.i have already repaired the headlight retractors with the help of the wilcox pdf files.great car, great fun and some nice people to help you along. p.s. these cars go by and everyone notices.

Thank you guys for the welcome's, PHILDAWG19- yeah I saw this car the other day. She is nice. BILLCARSEN-i know about the Island. Grew up there, amityville and shirley. I too think that the C-3's are the most beautiful in their lines/curves. I think that when you mention to someone about a vette, thier first image is of the C-3's. Don't get me wrong, I love the way the new one's ride. But as for style/class=C-3 all the way for me. My brother in-law has a 99 red/manuel with the heads up display, borla exhaust and is lowered an inch or two. He has had the car since 01. It has 9937 miles on it! He is thinking about selling it. This is why I have the bug again.!
Now is the right time to buy what you want. I would suggest that you not buy a vehicle from a Corvette "dealer" or sales facility; they just want too much money for what they have and many cars are just 'purtied up' with no attention given to the proper operation of accessories, etc.
Check sales mags/online for private owner sales. They are the folks who really take care of their cars properly. It may take a bit longer to find just the right car for you, but that will get you the best car for the lowest dollar.
Lastly, take your time when you check out a car. Tell the seller you will need at least 30 minutes to check out the car. Test everything on the car; give it a test drive; jack it up and look underneath for rust, condition of steering, suspension, brakes. Too many folks just assume stuff will work when they buy it. Well, if it doesn't, the repair bills will start piling up.

I have and never will buy from a "stealer". I have always purchased my vehicles from original owners or 2nd owners. I have purchased and sold many vehicles. I know most of thier tricks= they take the car home and take pic's in front of the house to make you think its a private party selling. Oil everything in the engine bay to make it look clean /shiney. Pretty much when you meet someone selling, you can size them up to what kind of person they are, then you know if the car was kept or not. exp:Garages kept spotless, keeps reciepts of everything, lawn and yard is kept. How they dress and act. It's all part of the hunt. Which I believe is the best part of buying a vehicle.
Yeah right now I have only been looking online. I have not sold my boat yet. So I do not have the funds. I do not want to be a tire kicker. I'll wait till I have the cash, Then start actually looking for a purchase. Until then I will just be learning/finding out all the little things about the c-3 flat windows. I ordered two books that I don't have, one-c3 buyers guide and the other is collectors originality guide for c3. I will read these to find out some more details before I commit to a purchase. Thanks again for the warm welcomes....
