Default 76 temp

What is the normal operating range for the temp guage to read with the air on in town and on the interstate. Most of the time in town my guage reads under 200 degrees. On the interstate it is a little over the 200 degree mark. Over the 200 degree mark I turn the air off and roll the windows down. Havent had this car but a month so not sure what its suppose to be. I think the car has a 170 degree thermostat in it. Is this normal?

I'm fighting high temps in my 76. It runs a shade over 200 and creeps up to the mark right below warning area when I'm running AC in town.
I was able to drop the average temp some by adding some of the "water wetter" stuff.

The '76 stock thermostat was 195* unit. If that's what you have in the car, 200* will be the normal running temperature. The thermostatic fan is matched for that temp as well. If you install a 180* stat in the car, it will likely fluctuate between 180 and 200 because the fan won't engage until it reaches 200*+.

200 is fine. 240 is not.

Interesting, I never thought about the fan clutch when I did my motor transplant with 180 deg stat.

Radiator: clean it or re-place it its more than likley clogged internally.
My 75 was the same way till I re-placed it it now runs 180 almost constant.
