Have a '80 vette. Finally got around to tackling the install of a B&M shift kit(30262). I thought I had a TH350-being a 1980 car and all....
Kit has several places it doesn't line up-definitely not the right one. Square pan with the lopped off corner. Not a 400-have several trucks with them, not it. I am guessing it is a rebuild with upgraded internals. Since I got it sitting all apart with only a slight grasp as to what I am doing (LOL), anybody have any ideas what it is ? I am guessing post 82 th350...but am just guessing...can't find any numbers...Looks a lot like the instructions say, but one corner is too short on their plate, and no hole for the second bolt on the electric solenoid in there..(I hate when this happens...)
The data plate on the tranny will specify the assembly part number. Any vendor who sells shift kits should have asked what assembly number your car has. After 30 years, it is unlikely to have the same P/N transmission in it. Even if your original unit had been rebuilt, it could have some differences from original production.
I suspect the tranny had been changed in the past to a different model of tranny.
1980s have the turbo 350c.The valve body is different
That's what I am suspecting. Figures. Pulled it all apart, etc. Normal for me, I often joke Murphy gets mail here....
I'll call B&M on Monday and describe the valve body to them and see if they have a kit that fits. I like driving the car to work, but it always seems to never be happy where it was shifting.Rolling hills, it'd kick up and down constantly. If you tromp on it, it goes and works normally. I checked and replaced all the vacuum lines to it ( a mechanic at work suggested that ). Could be deeper a problem than a shift kit will fix, but for $30 bucks it's a cheap start.
Thank you for all of your input, guys!
B&M sold you the wrong kit for your car. Now that you've installed it, good luck sending it back and getting your money for it.
However, if you bought the kit with a credit card...and B&M refuses to return your money...call your credit card company and explain what B&M did. They will have you write a formal letter detailing the problem. When you don't get a satisfactory response from B&M, the card company will get involved and may actually cancel the charge (and wipe out the payment to B&M) because of their "error".

Bought it a while back from Summit. It's on 30 bucks-I'll give it to a friend for his el camino project. I'll look at the transgo and see if it will work. I couldn't locate a data plate. It seems that whenever people put in rebuilds, etc it's not important to them to keep that plate on there!
