Default Picture Request

Hello Friends,

Need a couple pics please. I am refurbishing/repainting/powdercoating everything possible under the hood and including windshield wiper area. I don't know the term for the item I need a picture of so I will attempt to explain. The part I need is what the windshield wiper arm attaches to and the area with that item removed. It has three bolts that hold the stud for the wiper arms. I am trying to figure out how to replace these bolts if they break off before I proceed with detailing this area. Hopefully the pictures will show if it is rivited to the firewall and the bolts come through a plate underneath the stud.

Thanks,

andy

Here is a few shots of mine.

As I recall, the assembly goes into a reinforcing plate under the dash.

If you break them they should be replaceable by removing the outer plate.

I believe the bolts come from under the firewall. Soak the bolts & nuts with PB blaster or similar if they are rusted before removing them. This is from the 70 AIM. Hope this helps.

Hi Andy
Often those 3 nuts come off pretty easily because some of the 'sealer' that got slopped in the wiper bay was put on them too; so they were protected.
My transmissions looked quite a bit like East's except that they appeared at one time to have had a bit of gold iradite wash on them.
BUT, I'm not sure about that.
Regards,
Alan

Default studs

Ian,

Thanks for those great pics! What I really would like to see is a picture under this area or if someone could tell me how difficult it is to replace the bolts in the plate. How hard is it to get the plate out to replace them? I am almost certain that I have one that is going to break if I remove it but I want to get it out to paint. catch 22 lol.

Glen, Thanks for your input. I'll soak them down and see what happens.

Mr. Alan, so is the color a natural steel or iron? Do I use cast blast original or another color?

Thanks All,

andy

Andy,

I had mine off a couple of times. The small hex head screws you see in the black base plate go through the cowl to reinforcement plates behind the dash.

The transmission studs (good word Alan) I believe are blind under the baseplate. If you break a stud, you should be able to repair it off the car.

As Alan says, the sealer should have protected the studs over the years. Mine came apart without any trouble.

As for the colour of the transmissions, all I did was wire brushed mine and that's the colour they came out

Default Wiper Transmission

All,

I got the transmission off and yes, I did break a bolt. I then proceeded to remove the base plate. Royal PITA to say the least. The 4 hex head bolts come from behind the dash as you said Ian, but they can't be removed without taking out the passenger side map holder beneath the dash. The drivers side can be reached by becoming a contortionist and sliding ones hands between and among the wiring behind and above the speedo and tach. They are out now!
