Default Removing A/C unit

Hi

I'm looking to remove the A/C unit in my '69 and not replace/restore it. I've noticed that the heater core is different on A/c and non a/c models. I also planned the change to blower motor to that of a C4. I only need heat to de-mist the windscreen and keep warm, have no real need for a/c!

Any non compatibility issues i should be aware of?

thanks

Eoin

What are you going to do with the compressor? Is it an original? I would be interested if it is in buying it......................Bruce

You may not want the factory AC, but the next owner might. Personally, I would keep the AC.

You can add the C4 fan (squirrel cage is all you really need) without too much effort. You will need a 1/2" spacer. The C4 fan is 1/2" longer than your C3 fan.

I rekon the a/c needs a complete overhaul, not sure if any of it works! None of it is connected, water pipes are recirculating back to the engine, which probably means that the heater core is leaking, did a search through previous posts and a guy spent $ 800 on getting his system back operating.

Not sure where to start! Will have the front clip off next week so will have good access....

any tips would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I started looking into doing just this last week as well. I have a non-AC car that was halfway thru being converted; the original heater parts were no longer around for me to go back to at no cost.

With that in mind, here's where I currently decided to go. Left in the AC box on the outside and plan on connecting up the heater core hoses. They are not there now, so will add and insert a manual water cutoff switch as discuss in various other threads. It has the AC controls in the console, so hooked those back up and will just use the off and heat. Still had the non-AC remainder of the console, so will look to find in install parts to get the driver kickpanel vent working again with the manual slide lever. You will not have a vent on the driver side if I understand AC models correctly. You will also not have the correct wiring harness and may need to modify or replace yours, I think there is an extra heater connector for non-AC under the dash, possible different at the control panel as well. And I know it is bubba of me, but since I did not need all the extra venting under the dash, I used foil heat tape to close off the opening that fed the extra AC ducts and will be leaving them out. Open to suggestions if there is a better approach, dash is still all out at the moment. After looking at all the parts I would have to buy to get it correctly back to non-AC, it would have been cheaper to just buy one of those new AC units from someplace like vintageair.

I'm with Mike in that it might be better to have the extra items still there just to leave future options open.

My advice is not to remove the clip if you do not have to. Getting it off is one thing; reinstalling it correctly is another.

No sense doing work you honestly do not have to do.

You can have heat and defrost without having a fully functional AC.
