Can anyone tell me the name of the color on my 78 please? I have heard red, fire engine red, cany apple red, claret, cinnabar. It came off the line black, that's all I know.
Sorry, but if it is not the original color, it would be very hard to tell what the painter used, unless you know the painter and can ask him. If you are looking to do touch ups and this is why you are asking the color, most automotive paint shops can shoot the color to their computer and come up with a match.
Previous owner has passed away and I have no idea who painted it or even when. I like resale red. Although Candy apple red has a nice ring to it. Thanks fellas I am looking to do some touch up and was more wondering then enything else.
Mike, didn't you have body work done around April of this year. If so then the body shop should have an idea of the colour code. Maybe it's on the invoice?
FWIW: the color might be called Candy Apple Red, but that does not look like genuine candy paint in your pic. Park her out in the sun and take another pic.
I always associated "Candy Apple Red" with the acrylic laquer paint that had the option of silver or gold base then mulitple thin layers of paint as well as clear with sanding in between. It was as expensive as pearlescent paint. The paint had a deep/depth look to it and there was no comparison to other paint finishes.
