Default Upper surround attaching point.

I would like to get a picture of the hood surround where it attaches to the cowl area, particularly looking at the area where there is a cable that attaches to the surround. I would assume that it is present on all the years. My year is a 74 and I can see the bracket that is riveted to the surround but nothing is attached to it. My understanding is that it is there to hold the surround on in the event of a crash.
Thanks in advance

Hi L,
I've not heard about such a cable. I'm sure 71 cars didn't have one.
Can you post a picture or describe it a little more?
Regards,
Alan

I am not sure what area you are speaking of but I don't have a cable associated with the hood on my 1974.

I have posted a picture (In my first post) of the bracket and a picture out of a Corvette fiberglass repair manual showing the cable being removed in order to remove the upper surround. I am in the process of restoring this car.
Thanks

Hi Lights,
That's a new one for me.
I'm not familiar enough with 74 cars to know. Is there any chance that's an aftermarket item? The AIM, ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL, would show the cable if it was on your car when it left St. Louis. Have you looked there?
Paul 74 should know for sure once he sees your picture!
Regards,
Alan

PS: If the accident is serious enough to need that cable I'd think there's already fiberglass flying everywhere.

Hi L,
I'm still voting for an aftermarket item.

Check the assembly instruction manual. Some years have the cable and bracket; other (earlier) years do not.

I did not, Alan. I have never seen that cable and I drove a 1979 for 17 years. It's a mystery to me.

No cable like that on my 74 or 72. Nor do I have those rivets.

8.141 in my Corvette parts catalogue. #476231, cable, upper, 2 per car, 78-82.

Don't look now, but there could be another one on the RH side.
