Hold down my softtop
Hi,
I have a lot of problems holding down my softtop (in the back). The pin's will not stay down.
What is my problem?

Two (maybe three) possibles.
1) Pins are misadjusted. The pins can be screwed in or out to engage the latches. The pin mounts on the bow can be adjusted left/right and shimmed in or out.
2) (Related to #1) The latches can be moved a little. Loosen the bolts and there is a little play. Not much but it may help with engagement.
3) Pins are just worn and not staying engaged properly. I had that issue and got some new pins.

I was having the same problem and had to adjust the rods that go from the handle to the holes. Mine also have paint all over the latches which make it less "snappy".

I.... I... was having problems because those little pins at the back of my soft top would pop out. I replaced the pins with 35 cent hardware bolts that have the same size threads as the pins, so they screw right into the top. Of course they don't slide right through the spring loaded catches: I have to pull the handle underneath the decklid and press the bolts down, but once in they hold the top down. Bonus is the bolts are long enough to keep the soft-top weatherstrip away from the decklid, so no marking of the paint.

OK, you are probably not getting full engagement.
1) Look at the pins. If they are worn where the latch locks, then it is easier for them to slip. The solution is to replace them.
2) Adjust pins out a little so they are longer. This will help with engagement. The top does not need to be down hard, just enough for the weatherstripping to seal.
3) Adjust the rods, ensuring there is no tension on the latches when the handle is not being pulled. This will ensure that the latches are fully engaged.

same problem for me, I have new weatherstripping on the softtop so I cannot even adjust the pins out enough to take up the slack for them to seat and latch down in the latches..
so this is what I did..
I don't use these:
So I set up the softtop with these:
and then I use these to draw down the top by inserting from below and draw the top down with the large wingnuts.. finger tight does the trick. problem solved, nothing pops out and it draws the top down to a good seal on the deck. of course the only time the top is up is if stuck in rain ( so far never), or exercising the car in the winter.. I might get it out twice.

Here are my bolts - I wish I could focus better!
If you try this, remember: Do not force the bolts through the receivers without pulling back the handle underneath the decklid.

I've sworn that bubba isn't allowed in my garage anymore. Things will be done right with the right part from now on.

I found the PO had removed the latches on mine and installed them on opposite sides. THey'd snap in fine, but any vibration and they'd pop open. Once I figured out what was going on and swapped them back, no more problem.
