Recently purchased NOS Firestone Wide Oval tires for a 1970. Labels are still on the tires. Some are white and some are yellow. Any idea which color label, if any, is correct for the spare tire?
Hi c,
I don't think I've heard of any label on the production line tires, except for a very small paper label seen on occasion. Perhaps service replacement tires had the more typical label on the tread.
I'd be very interested in seeing a picture of your labels!
Regards,
Alan

I ve got one it says D.O.T. VDUS FAJ 285
Firestone firehawk 500
You need one im not driving on it!!!!!!!!
Ill look for the label color tonight. its from a 75
The car sees minimal road time. I'm not planning on any burnouts or lap times. I'll mount the tires and do a little driving on them if they hold air. They're in good shape both inside and out. No rot or cracking. They'll probably last another twenty years!
Thanks for offering to check your labels but I need the info for a 70 and I bet things would've changed in five years.
Hi c,
Although you can't post attachments you can post pictures. Look for the instructions under the FAQ tab.
Basically you upload your pictures to a site like PhotoBucket. Then you copy the IMG code under the picture you want to post and paste it into the body of your post or directly under it. We can all see it then.
I would be careful even standing near a 40 year old tire that's fully inflated! On another site some posted that he heard a boom in his attached garage, while he stood looking at the exploded nos tire another tire exploded. He was afraid to even get near enough take the other 2 off the car.
I'd still like to see your labels.
Regards,
Alan
