Default Steering mechanism drawing?

I have just been failed a warrent of fitness for too much play in the pivot arm on the steering. I have talked to the company who can repair it, but he sugested that I get a price for the parts from the US as they can be hard to get here in New Zealand. So I started looking but then realized that I dont know what the parts are called to look for them!

Does anyone have a drawing with the parts shown so that I can get the mechanic to list the items that I need to price?

Cheers
Kev

I'm very surprised that a (decent) mechanic wouldn't put the car up on a lift and investigate to see which parts were needed. I think you might want to find a different mechanic.

Further, there are many things that could cause play in that system. Anything from the steering box, flex coupling, idler arm, and/or steering link ballstuds (worn). You don't want to just replace all of those, as most probably don't need it. You really need to find a place to take the car to...or if you can't drive it...have someone come look at the car. A qualified mechanic at an alignment shop would 'fill the bill'. You might also contact a Corvette Car Club in your vicinity and solicit recommendations of qualified mechanics from them.

What is worn out? The linkage or the steering box?

He actually did and he pointed out all the parts needed, but by the time I got home I had received information overload and forgotten the names (I know very little about the mechanics of cars). I just need to see a drawing so that I can isolate the parts needed as I dont want to get the wrong ones or miss one out. This guy is a steering specialist, but because a Corvette is an uncommon car in New Zealand he thought I may be able to get the parts myself and save some money and time.

Cheers
