1. what is the length of a 1969 automatic turbo 400 driveshaft?
2. The bolts that bolte the flywheel to the tranny, what kind of bolts are those (what size/thread)? (same car)
I am not sure about the length of the driveshaft I do not think that it is specific only to a 69 though. On a small block the bolts that bolt the flexplate to the engine are 7/16th 20RH they are hardened and specific for the application. As they are fairly inexpensive ($10 or less a set) I would not reuse the old ones. The bolts that bolt the flexplate to the torque converter can vary in size depending if the converter is after market or not. I hope this is some help.
Ok thanks, one more thing though, does the flexplate actually touch the torque converter when they are bolted together, or is there a gap, I keep trying to bring them together (to touch) with no luck
i believe the correct length of the automatic driveshaft, center to center on the U joints, should be 29.5 inches (it is different and a bit longer for the 4 speed shaft). it should also be 2" diameter. and the driveshaft was universal from 1968 to at least 1979 (i believe).
Yes, the torque converter has three tabs that the flexplate bolt to. The bolts thread from the engine side into the tabs on the converter. You have to start at the bottom and rotate the flexplate around. The converter should slide up to the flexplate. Any chance of a photo?
Did you have the converter off? It should slide and turn easily. If the converter it is not seated all the way onto the transmission is will bind when the bellhousing is bolted up to the engine.
